Basic information for commercial asparagus producers, including information on crop climatic requirements, varieties, planting, fertilization, harvest, and marketing channels.

California has three primary asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) production areas: the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta (San Joaquin, Sacramento, and Contra Costa Counties), the Central Coast (Monterrey and San Benito Counties), and the San Joaquin Valley (Fresno, Kern, Merced, and Kings Counties). However, asparagus is broadly adaptable, and limited acreages of asparagus are grown in various other parts of the state, from the Sacramento Valley in the north to the Imperial Valley in the South.
