This study reviews the global market for sustainably wild-collected botanical ingredients from China. China produces many plant-based herbal medicines and ingredients, consumed within China and worldwide. The study promotes recognition and implementation of sustainable wild-collection standards and certification schemes in China. It examines exports of wild-collected and cultivated botanical, algal and fungal ingredients and market segments. The study addresses market trends for certified ingredients, and quantifies how sustainability standards are implemented and independently certified. The value chain includes producers, registered processors, traders and brandholders. The study uses data from accredited control bodies and national and intergovernmental trade databases.
