Se compararon diferentes métodos de estimaciónde la velocidad de evolución de la Sigatoka Negra (SN) en bananos Cavendish (AAA), para determinar los momentosde los tratamientos con fungicidas. Variability in responses of partially ripe bananas to 1-methylcyclopropene

The effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) was evaluated on bananas at intermediate stages of ripeness after 36/48 h of having been commercially treated with ethylene. Several conditions for the application of 1-MCP including concentrations (100, 300 and 1000 nl l-1), temperatures (14 and 20 °C) and durations of exposure (6, 12 and 24 h) were studied.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging of Banana (cv. Pachbale) with Ethylene, Carbon di-oxide and Moisture Scrubbers and Effect on its Ripening Behaviour

The synergistic effect between modified atmosphere and potassium permanganate based ethylene scrubber on ripening behaviour of unripe banana fruits was evaluated at 13±1°C followed by ethrel induced ripening at 30±1°C. The type of modified atmospheres consisted of passive mode [prepackaged in polyethylene (PE) pouches] as well as active modes [gas flushed with 3% O2 and 5% CO2 in PE pouches and partial vacuum (400 mmHg) packaged].

U.S. Citrus Production Forecast Up in 2010/11

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) forecasts 2010/11 U.S. citrus production at 11.9 million tons, up 9 percent from last season and virtually the same as 2 seasons ago. Production of all citrus crops is forecast higher than last year, except for grapefruit.

Passive Modified Atmosphere Packaging of Banana (Cv. Cavendish) Using Silicone Membrane

Silicone diffusion was used for the generation of passive modified atmosphere at low temperature to over come the deficiencies associated with LDPE based diffusion. The optimization of MAP variables (fill weight and silicone membrane diffusion area at a constant fill volume and storage temperature) was carried out using response surface methodology in terms of responses (head-space O2, CO2 and storage life). The derived quadratic equations were found to support experimental data obtained under the experimental conditions.
