Peras (Pyrus communis L.) Packham’s Triumph fueron evaluadas en madurez y producción de etileno desde cuatro semanas previo a la cosecha. Firmeza y sólidos solubles obtuvieron las mayores correlaciones (r = -0,97 y 0,98, respectivamente) con días después de plena flor (DDPF). La producción de etileno fue baja (< 0.07 mg kg-1) y no mostró correlación con DDPF.

U.S. Citrus Production Forecast Up in 2010/11

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) forecasts 2010/11 U.S. citrus production at 11.9 million tons, up 9 percent from last season and virtually the same as 2 seasons ago. Production of all citrus crops is forecast higher than last year, except for grapefruit.

USDAGAIN.jpgApple production in Mexico for MY 2010/11 (August/July) is forecast at 540,000 metric tons (MT), a 3.7 percent decrease compared to MY 2009/10 production. Chihuahua, the main apple producing state, had a freeze in May that lowered production. Total pear production is forecast at 23,200 MT for MY 2010/11 (July/June), a marginal decrease from MY 2009/10. Total table grape production for MY 2010/11 (May/April) is forecast to increase to 194,000 MT due to better overall yields.

To further our understanding of the response of ‘Bartlett’ pear fruit to 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and their ability to recover the capacity to ripen, ‘Bartlett’ pears were treated with 0.3 μLL−1 1-MCP for 12 h at 20 °C immediately after harvest in two seasons and to pear fruit of four maturities. 1-MCP decreased rates of softening, ethylene production, respiration, and yellow color development, and reduced incidence of scald and internal breakdown.
