U.S. Citrus and Strawberry Production Forecast Down This Season, Avocados Up

The index of prices received by fruit and tree nut growers was up this January and February over the same time in 2009. Growers received higher prices due to limited supplies from California and Florida. The Consumer Price Index was down less than 1 percent from January and February in 2009. Retail prices for Red Delicious apples and bananas fell due to a big apple crop this season and to increased banana shipments from Central America.
