The successful experience of the Ethiopian floriculture sector has caught the attention of future investors. This article examines the potential of the fruit and vegetable export sector. Ethiopia has excellent conditions for horticulture production and a strong support from the government.
Within four years the floriculture sector in Ethiopia has developed from almost nothing to a sector with 1,000ha and more than 80 farms. This can be attrib uted to the favourable climate, an attractive investment package and a pro ac tive and supportive government. The export of fruit and vegetables is, compared to flowers, still small. However, the good growing conditions and the strong support of the government makes investing in fruit and vegetables in Ethiopia an option more than worthwhile to look at.
