Fresh-cut products are fresh fruits and vegetables that have been prepared (cleaned, washed, sanitized, cut), packaged, and held under refrigeration until consumption. The fresh-cut sector continues to develop innovative and convenient products.

Consumers demand safe, high quality fresh-cut products that have extended shelf-life, but also good eating quality. These demands require that fresh-cut processors and handlers meet rigorous standards.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to invite you to participate to the upcoming 7th International Scientific Agriculture Symposium "Agrosym 2016" to be held on 6-9 October 2016 in Jahorina mountain (near Sarajevo), Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The goal of the Symposium is to bring together researchers and scientists with interests in (1) Plant Production, (2) Plant Protection and Food Safety, (3) Organic Agriculture,
( 4) Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management, (5) Animal Husbandry

Produce Safety: A Science-based Framework Workshop

An interactive two-and-a-half day workshop with a focus on Microbial Produce Safety Systems from Preharvest to Postharvest
 UCGAPs/Celery Harvest

This workshop is an integrated approach to building a foundation of awareness and improved understanding of the current scientific basis for produce microbial safety systems and preventive controls.  The content is designed to provide participants with a Framework for decision-making on key topics common to industry guidance and standards as well as the multiple layers of evolving federal regulatory compliance rule-making requirements.  The curriculum is a blend of fundamental, applied, and practical information that will challenge existing knowledge and assumptions regarding the How, Why, Where and When facts of systems-oriented tactics in developing, implementing, managing, and complying with evolving produce food safety programs and finalized food safety rulemaking.

The course delivery is an interactive-based delivery of formal lectures, group assessment of case examples, and break-out group problem-solving challenges.  Participants are assumed to be familiar with the basic elements of prerequisite GAPs and GHPs programs and harmonized produce safety audit criteria.  The emphasis of the curriculum is the science-basis for audit standards and preparing for using audits and targeted microbiological testing to improve performance.  Key resources and tools for hazard awareness, risk identification, risk-based preventive controls, and verification of corrective actions will be provided.  Instructors will provide a strong emphasis in practical applications and "boots-on-the-ground" experience in dealing with programmatic and day to day produce safety challenges. 


The course content is primarily designed for entering and junior level produce safety professional across the supply-chain and affiliated industries.  Many others with an interest in produce safety as educators, managers, or policy developers will find the course content informative and unique.
